As the famous artist to King Louis of France, Jean Baptiste Heut influenced and taught artist Demarteau, who is the engravier of this piece. It is rare to find the original matte and frame intact. Although this piece shows some signs of wear, it is from the 18th Century and was found underneath many bins of old pieces in a Paris home. I love his mastery of the animals faces and the sweetness of the shepherd boys gaze. Frame is typical of the era in wood and plaster.
Frame size: 9 3/4 x 12 1/2 inches or 25 x 32 cm
